Discover Los Angeles' Michelin-Starred Restaurants

If you're a foodie, you've probably heard of the Michelin Guide - the prestigious restaurant guidebook that awards stars to the best dining establishments around the world. Los Angeles has been a part of the Michelin Guide since 2008, and today boasts a diverse selection of restaurants that have been awarded one, two, or three Michelin stars.

What is the Michelin Guide?

The Michelin Guide is a French-originated publication that rates restaurants on a scale of one to three stars. One star signifies "a very good restaurant," two stars mean "excellent cooking that is worth a detour," and three stars signify "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey." The guidebook was originally created by tire manufacturers Andre and Edouard Michelin in 1900 as a way to encourage automobile travel in France. Today, the Michelin Guide covers more than 32 countries and includes over 30,000 restaurants.

How are awards given?

The awards are given based solely on the quality of food served at each restaurant. Michelin inspectors visit each restaurant anonymously and evaluate it based on factors such as flavor, technique, consistency, and creativity. Other factors like service, decor, and price are not considered. The inspectors pay for their own meals and do not accept free meals or gifts from restaurants.

Bib Gourmand

In addition to the star ratings, the Michelin Guide also awards Bib Gourmands to restaurants that offer high-quality food at a reasonable price. The Bib Gourmand symbol is awarded to restaurants that serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).
